The Weaver's Information about what is behind the images inside her Shed

Welcome!

This page tells you what you will find in the weaver's shed : all the pages which hold information about things to do with weaving.
To see most of these pages, look at the "image links" in the picture showing the inside of the "Weaver's Shed".

On each page, right after all the information, you find a shuttle to take you back to the weaver's shed, the menu.
On some pages you will also find shuttles to take you elsewhere in the site.

Weaving lessons from the weaver
learn how to prepare your loom, all about the threads that go on it, and then see how to weave. You don't need to have a loom to do these "exercises" with the weaver. But if you can find some things to make your own weaving frame or weaving loom, then you might understand better. There are some special words you have to learn, they are in a "dictionary", here.

The loom tells you about looms
who makes looms and accessories, where to buy them: in Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Europe (as fas I have have found this information).
You will also find out what some of the names mean that describe the looms, and a bit about working with all those threads ...
People who weave a lot and have bigger looms might be interested to visit the links to websites which offer "programs" and "calculators" for visualising the loom set-up?

The warping frame
you find all the links here: those for youngsters, those for older people and weavers, and those to sites where the weaver finds ideas and support for her work and personal interests

The upright loom
Weaving times and weaving places: if you want to see weaving from other times, other countries, or you want to see other types of weaving, or weaving with other materials, there is a page about those, too.

The boat shuttles
will tell you the names of all the pages of this site, and how they fit together. This is just for your information, there are no links.

The table loom
... this is the page where you are! To get to all the other pages you have to click on the weaver's shuttle at the base of this page, to go back into the weaver's shed.

The home-made loom
here you find a few ideas of "real" looms you can make quite easily

The inkle loom
inkle looms and tablet looms are used to weave bands and braids (but you can weave these on almost any loom!). On this page you will see how to weave braids.

The tapestry loom
information for weavers, carers, teachers - - includes also the necessary disclaimers to be looked at please

The picture
leads you to works of art about weavers, weaving, and woven things. You will find images/pictures, songs, stories and poems, in English, French and German. Some of these are quite easy to understand, others are more for adults or people who know a lot about weaving.
I also have some images which show work done by artists, using the technique of weaving to create their work. Really interesting to look at, you might even find inspiration here for your own work! I give the web address so that you can visit the website and have a look at what else there is to see. This is one of my favourite pages of my website.

Fireside comforts
gives a few recipes. Either for traditional things that weavers used to eat and drink, or that have 'weaving' in their name. Or indeed what keeps the weaver (and her cat) going when working in the shed

The circular decoration
these are the "fun weaves". Strange objects to weave on

The Wall rug
... now that you have woven a few basic things, or unusual things, what can you do with them? Here are ideas for really good things that you can weave using "looms" that will surprise everybody.

The basket
sometime in 2004 you will find a page describing special needs "designer" looms (until they get their own site)

Purrfect the weaver's cat
he is content because he knows that the visitors to 'his' shed like what they see. He has all sorts of things for you to contact him (he always thinks he's the Emperor): e-cards, email, forum, guest map ...

Send a card!
This page is not in the shed, I just wanted to say that you can send a few of the images and backgrounds as an e-card.

A dictionary
is out of sight on the bench by the weaver so that she can find it quickly...
But I do have a list of words a weaver uses, and have translated most of these into French and German. You will find it when you look at the lessons with the weaver.

The Guest Book
Here you can say what you thought about the weaver's shed! About the idea, the lessons, teaching, animations, pictures. About what you liked or not, what was difficult, what was fun? Will it help you, has it encouraged you to weave?
Teachers, weavers, carers could also say what they thought of the approach, presentation, ideas (need any more?). If you have questions about weaving, materials etc, have useful information for others, can answer questions others have asked: the Weaver's Forum is the best place for this...
Of course any visitor can ask questions about weaving etc, give answers ...
And if you don't like writing in guest books, then maybe the guest map will please you. On another page you can send me an e-mail (I'm sure Purrfect thinks all mail is for him). He thought that 'his' visitors might like to send an e-card their friends.
