A circular weave

needs a circular object to weave on !

FIFTH IDEA ........

Weave a "Circlarious" - - - which is my word for describing these 'happy fun circles' ....
You need:
-*-*- the metal circle of an old lamp shade. You can also use any other round item; it has to be quite solid. Make sure it is clean, smooth, and fairly round
-*-*- lots of odd bits of colourful wool to chose from
-*-*- varnish or acrylic craft paint or other paint that can be used on the material of your circle
-*-*- a few feathers, beads, and ribbon if you don't want to use the wool
-*-*- narrow strips of fabric in one colour might be useful, in this case you will need some glue
-*-*- scissors, sticky tape, a long embroidery needle or a fine crochet hook

Maybe you have seen dream catchers? They are beautiful objects, and take a lot of concentration and patience to make. They can be quite complicated.
In the past I have made "Circlarious" rings, an idea which came to me when I saw a dream catcher which had 'caught' a bad dream in its web.For this weaving page I will describe how you can make these fun rings, it will still take a little time and concentration though, but you will be surprised by the good-looking result.

Clean the ring, make it as round as you can if it is bent, smooth it if necessary. You may paint the ring with varnish or gloss or acrylic-based craft paint.

Use some thick yarn as the warp. Tie it to the ring, put a bit of clear sticky tape to hold the knot in place.
Take the thread across the ring, knot it somewhere, use sticky tape to keep the knot in place. Go across in all directions, make about 15 knots, right round the ring. No need to have the same distance between the knots. Always hold the knots in place with the sticky tape. Use the same thread as a weft.
woven decoration animation The animation shows using different colours for warp and weft:
it helps to see where the threads go on my ring.

Tie the 'weft' somewhere to the ring (use sticky tape as before), then take it towards the opposite side. Each time you get to a warp thread, you must go round it twice with your weft and tie a half knot, then you go to the next warp thread.
When you are at the opposite side, tie the weft to the ring (sticky tape...)

When you have about9 knots of weft thread on the ring, tie the weft to the ring (sticky tape...)
Now you can cover the ring with the narrow bands of fabric; this is a good idea if you did not paint the ring. Wind the strips round the ring, covering all the sticky tape, and glue the end to a fabric strip.

As decoration, and to hang it up, use some ribbon at the top.
Traditionally you have 3 or 5 long thin ribbon tassels at the base, and a few feathers and beads at the end of one ribbons in each tassle.

Chose another fun weave?
